Piet Brakman (1945) is a Dutch musical teacher and therapist, songwriter and singer from the province of Zealand. He moved to the province of Brabant in the 1970's, where he (beside his job as musical therapist) worked for a music company (Telstar). In the 1980's he returned to Zealand with his wife and children and settled in the village Groede (in the south of Zealand: Zeeuws-Vlaanderen). Brakman released over 15 LP's and CD's.

Brakman sings in a Zealandic dialect (more precise: Zealandic Flemish). The province Zealand/Zeeland, in the south-west of the Netherlands, consists of six (former) islands and peninsulas (nowadays connected to the provinces Holland and Brabant). It's situated in the delta of the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt and it's famous for it's Delta Works.

The Zealandic region languages are a group of Frisian-Franconian languages. On every (former) island, the language is (a bit or even quite) different. So no less than 12 Zealandic dialects are distinguished.

Above song is especially about the most southern part of Zealand: Zealandic Flanders/Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. This area is only connected to Flanders in Belgium. From the Netherlands it's only reachable through a tunnel or by ferryboat. See more detailed map of the province of Zealand (with Zealandic Flanders in the south).

The above song is about the phenomenon that many people in Zealand move to other provinces to find a job - but many return after a shorter or longer period of time. Piet Brakman himself lived in Brabant for many years. His children even used typical Brabantian words (like 'houdoe'/goodbye and 'ons pap'/'us dad'). But in the end, he returns with his wife and children to the village Groede (or: De Groe) in Zealandic Flanders.

After his return to Zealand, Piet Brakman founded a musical publishing company in the village Breskens, not far from his home town Groede.
