Daniël Lohues (1971) is a singer-songwriter from Drenthe. This is a province in the north-east of the Netherlands. He writes his songs in the regional language Drents (derived from Old Saxon or Old Low German: the Germanic language of the Saxons).
Lohues started his musical career as lead singer of the Drents pop band Skik ('fun'). They had hits like 'On the bike'/'Op fietse' (1997) and 'How is that possible'/'Hoe kan dat nou' (1998). But from 2004 onward, Lohues was mainly busy with his solo career. For years he makes theatrical tours, singing the songs from the new albums he releases.
In the years 2006-2010 he released four albums Allennig I-IV, with hits like 'The benefit of music'/'Baat bij muziek' (2008), 'Here I'm from'/'Hier kom ik weg' (2008) and 'But as long as love will conquer'/'Als de liefde maar blijft winnen' (2008).

Other albums are for example Ericana (2013) and D (2014), with the hit (above song) 'In the countryside'/'Op 't platteland' (2014). This song is voted into the Top 2000 (traditionally broadcasted on the radio the last week of the year) since 2015.
Lohues also writes songs for artists like Guus Meeuwis, Freek de Jonge, Paul de Leeuw, Herman Finkers, Rob de Nijs and The Common Linnets (Ilse de Lange).
Daniël Lohues is known for his love for Drenthe, the countryside and the Drents language. He won the Annie M.G. Schmidt-Award for best theatre song 2006 and an Edison Award for his album 'Use wood'/'Hout moet' (2011).
